The original photograph taken in black and white. You can see the man on the left tire who refused to move when I asked him nicely. Also visible off the left wing are some people, a hangar, and a long sidewalk. Off the right wing you can see more people, a lawnchair, and a bomb standing on end.

The man on the wheel was easy enough to remove, but rebuilding the texture of the wheel (not visible here) was more problematic. Also, after removing the people and lawn chair from the right side of the photo, most of the underbelly of the tail did not exist, and needed to be re-created from scratch. The larger view is 27.9k.

Removing the people under the wing took some time, especially where wires crossed or people covered the landing gear. After that, it was a matter of applying the antique look. The larger view is 30.4k.

Due to an error on my part when taking the photograph, I did not achive the depth of field I had hoped for. Instead, the entire image came out in focus, requiring some extra work.

After basic cleaning and retouching, I applied a blur to the image that made the extreme foreground and background come out of focus. After achieving the depth of field, it was just a matter of applying the antique look. The larger view is 21.5k.

After much color correction, the building was warped and the fruit added. If you look at the original photograph, you can see where the blue Buick came from that appears on the banana in this image. The larger view is 37.3k.

After seeing the image with the fruit, the client desired something a bit more sedate. Leaving the twisted building place, I left the parking lot and added the suitcase to provide some contrast to the building. The larger view is 34.2k.

After some color correction, the clouds from the original image made a better platform for the building. The old sky was replaced with an obviously false set of clouds. The cars parked in the lot were replaced with spacecraft, one of which is obviously an old toy top. Adding the globe below instead of a real image of the earth adds to the toys-gone-crazy feeling. The original photograph as taken by Paris Roselli with an antique 4x5 camera. For this image, the client wanted something that related to their work in the computer industry. Removing the cars in the parking lot required rebuilding much of the left half of the building, which was later covered by the keyboard.

Using the same blues found in the sky, I replaced the parking lot with water to help alleviate the stark feeling of the asphalt. In keeping with the water theme, I added a beach chair and a rubber duckie. To achieve the goal of representing the computer industry, I turned the building into a computer complete with keyboard and monitor. The larger view is 42.3k.

Without a clear direction for this image, I began by color-correcting and cleaning the image. Removing the "For Lease" sign was one of those little fixes. Keeping with the use of toys in the other images, I added a Godzilla toy behind the building. To escape Godzilla, the trees can be seen moving for the door of the building in a motion blur while the parking meters and mailbox try to join them by bending the same way. The original photographs as taken by Paris Roselli. The image on the left is Buffalo City Hall. This image provided the base for the new building, allowing me to focus on removing the tower. The image on the right is a view of the tower from the Central Terminal. As you can see, the sun was on the other side of the tower, so the image had to be flipped to match the sun on City Hall. Since a photo couldn't be taken that would provide a symmetrical view of the tower, we instead settled for a shot that at least had a central axis on the building corner. The tower had to be resized to match the scale of City Hall, which ultimately required the addition of 6 more stories to the tower. The final details involved matching image grain, building colors, and inserting shadows. Despite the appearance that the tower is tilted, it's actually quite straight.

Matching the color of the new tower with that of City Hall was a bit tricky, requiring many different attempts that often resulted in too much orange. Otherwise, very little color retouching was needed, and other than cleaning dust and scratches, the bulk of the work went into integrating the two structures. An old sticker was removed from the street sign, for no particular reason. The larger view is 55.2k.
